PHILADELPHIA, August 24, 2006 – 1&1 Internet, Inc., (1&1) a United Internet subsidiary Web hosting company, today announced it will open a new, fully-automated data center in Lenexa, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City.

1&1 is the recognized leader of Web hosting products in Europe. It started to serve U.S. customers in late 2003.

The company has selected a 55,000 square feet facility that will supply space for 40,000 servers and will accommodate the company’s fast growing U.S. Web hosting client base. The data center is scheduled to open early 2007 and will employ 15 people. 1&1 specializes in Web sites and Domains for SMEs and consumers.

Currently, 1&1’s Web site customers are being hosted in two rented data centers in New York and New Jersey. The new facility in Kansas City will handle all new customers from within the United States and Canada.

“Opening another location besides our headquarters in the Philadelphia area underscores the importance of our U.S. business,” said Andreas Gauger, Chairman, 1&1 Internet. “1&1 will invest up to $9 million in the Lenexa site this year and several millions more in 2007.”

The Lenexa facility was selected from 10 sites and marks the first major investment 1&1 has made in Kansas.

“1&1 has found an excellent business climate in Kansas, and we have been enthusiastically welcomed to the Kansas City area,” continued Gauger. “We are looking forward to opening this facility and becoming part of the business community.”

“We are pleased to welcome 1&1 Internet’s new facility to Kansas,” said Secretary of Commerce Howard Fricke. “To be chosen by the world’s fastest-growing Web host truly speaks volumes about the business-friendly climate we have created in Kansas. 1&1 Internet will be a great addition to the Kansas business community, and we look to the company to be a leader for years to come.”

"We welcome 1&1 to Lenexa" said Blake Schreck, president of the Lenexa Economic Development Council. "We know that this growing company had many options to consider during their location search. We are especially pleased and proud that they have chosen our community."

“Our region’s low operating costs and reliable energy sources made possible by companies such as Kansas City Power & Light are important to attracting data centers,” said Bob Marcusse, president and CEO of the Kansas City Area Development Council. “We welcome 1&1 Internet to the KC community and look forward to their growth.”
